Welcome to the Clark Lab

We are a research group at the Department of Genetics, University of Cambridge.

We are interested in how gene regulatory systems robustly pattern animal embryos. We are also interested in how these systems have been shaped by evolution and how they influence evolution in return.

Our research combines advanced microscopy, genetic experiments, and computational modelling. Our workhorse species is the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster. We also have other insect species in the lab: various flies and the beetle Tribolium castaneum.

Our research is funded by the Wellcome Trust, UKRI BBSRC, the Leverhulme Trust, the Isaac Newton Trust, and the Cambridge Trust.
